Delivery Note
The supplier’s document accompanying a delivery, stating what it claims to have sent. It is the supplier’s account, not yours — which is exactly why the GRN exists.
Signing a delivery note is not receiving goods. It is very often taken as confirmation that the stated quantity arrived in good condition — and it is signed, routinely, by whoever is nearest the gate, under time pressure, without counting.
The discipline is to sign for receipt of a consignment, not for its contents, and to record what was actually accepted on your own document. The difference is the whole of your position in any later dispute about a short delivery.
