What is the review discipline for an AI-drafted document?
Read the citations before the prose, treat the gaps as the finding, and remember that you are the author rather than the reviewer. Nothing issues without human sign-off — and a document with your company’s name on it was written by your company.
Citations first, prose second
This inverts the natural instinct, and it matters. A drafted document that reads beautifully and cites the wrong records is far more dangerous than one that reads badly — because nobody checks the beautiful one. Fluency is not evidence, and it is very good at feeling like evidence.
So read what the draft says it used before you read what it says. If the sources are right, the prose is a formatting question. If the sources are wrong, the prose is a liability, however elegant.
The gaps are the finding
Where the draft had to infer rather than find, your project record has a hole. That is not a drafting failure — it is a discovery, and it is the single most useful thing the process produces.
The hole existed before you drafted the document, and it was going to hurt you in a dispute regardless. You have simply found it early, on a Tuesday, rather than late, under cross-examination.
You are the author
Not the reviewer. This is a design decision, not a legal disclaimer — a document that goes to a client with your company’s name on it was written by your company, and the person who signs it owns every word of it.
What changes is where their time goes. Not into finding records and formatting sections, which nobody needed a chartered engineer for. Into the judgement, which is the only part that ever needed them.
