Purpose-of-Issue Code
The code stating what a document may be used FOR — for information, for review, for approval, for construction. It is not metadata. It is an instruction, and using a document beyond its stated purpose is doing so at your own risk.
The distinction that matters most is “for information” versus “for construction”. A drawing issued for information has not been checked or approved for building, and a contractor that builds from it has assumed a risk the issuer did not accept.
It is also where liability is quietly allocated. A designer who issues something “for information” and finds it built has an argument. A contractor who builds from it has a problem. Reading the code takes two seconds and it is skipped constantly.
