Hold Point
A point in the work beyond which the contractor may NOT proceed until the specified inspection has been carried out and released. It is a mandatory stop, and proceeding through one is a non-conformance in itself.
Hold points exist for work that cannot be verified afterwards without destroying something — reinforcement before a pour, waterproofing before a screed. That is why they stop the job: once the concrete is in, the inspection is no longer possible at any price.
And they are the point at which programme pressure and quality control collide most directly. A contractor waiting on a hold-point release with a concrete truck on the gate is under real pressure to proceed, and this is exactly the moment a photograph is worth more than any amount of later argument.
