LTI (Lost Time Injury)
An injury resulting in the worker being unable to attend their next scheduled shift. It is the most widely used safety metric in construction — and the most widely manipulated, because the definition depends on whether somebody came to work.
The manipulation is rarely fraudulent and it is very common: a lightly-injured worker is given a chair and a clipboard, attends the shift, and the injury is not "lost time". The metric improves. The injury is identical.
Which is why LTI-based bonus schemes are dangerous. They create pressure not to prevent injuries but to prevent the classification — and they push reporting underground, which is precisely where you do not want it.
