Common Data Environment (CDE)
The single agreed source of project information — where every drawing, model and document lives, at a known revision, with a known status. The point is not storage. The point is that there is exactly one place to look.
A CDE is a governance idea wearing a technology costume. Its value is the discipline it enforces: one location, one current revision, a defined status for every document (work in progress, shared, published, archived), and a transition process between them.
Which is why a shared drive is not a CDE, however well organised. A folder cannot tell you whether the drawing in it is the current one, and a project where people are unsure will hedge by emailing each other copies — at which point the single source of truth has quietly become fifteen.
